Getting Started

Maergo will supply two elements of credentials to each user of the API:

API_ID - specific value to be assigned per API user
API_KEY - specific validator for each API user

Each API transaction MUST be authenticated using the API credential pair using the HTTP BASIC Authentication method.

Test Credentials

Please reach out to your account manager or sales representative for credentials to our staging environment.

Production Endpoints and Credentials

The endpoints found in this documentation are for our testing only. When you're ready to begin creating shipments in production, remove the staging. from the URL.
Production credentials can be collected directly from your Maergo dashboard. Please reach out to your account manager if you have not yet been setup with a login.

Geo Fence security protocol

Due to malicious activity directed to our API endpoints and to satisfy our security protocols, we have blocked access to our endpoints from IP addresses outside of the United States. If you reside outside of the United States, you can utilize a VPN when sending requests to our endpoints.

The verify service allows for both the verification of the API credentials as well as a validation that the API service is available for transactions.

The order API service is used to create a shipment order within the Maergo network. The following assumptions apply to this service:

Time Standard - All times are to be specified in UTC \"Z\" format. As an example: 2020-06-20T13:35:00Z would represent the 20th of June 2020 08:35:00 AM CDT.

Address Validation - Maergo does not currently offer address validation as a service and we will NOT fail any shipments containing typos and errors. Shippers are best served by using address validation during the checkout process.

Dimensions and Weights - It is assumed that all dimensions are in inches to a single decimal point and all weights are in ounces to a single decimal point.

Financials - All financial terms are expressed in US Dollars to two decimal places (e.g., 1.00)

NOTE:: Some to_address.zip inputs may produce an error when using test credentials and test endpoints. This is because not all test environment accounts are well maintained by our carrier partners. Please reach out to your account manager if you are having issues with testing certain regions/zip codes.

Input Parameters

IMPORTANT: OPTIONAL fields must be included in the request, but the string may be left empty or blank.
NOTE: The exception to this is with is the return_address object. Unless you will be filling in the fields of this object, do NOT include it in the request.

shipper_name	String	Shipper name.
shipper_phone	String	Shipper phone number.
reference_id `OPTIONAL`	String	Id of the ‘reference_data’ field below (ie: Order #).
reference_data `OPTIONAL`	String	Input that correlates to ‘reference_id’ (ie: Order # 0001234) For some carriers with optional text fields, we will pass inputs from this field to be added to the label.
to_address	Object	Destination address.
name	String	Recipient name.
company_name `OPTIONAL`	String	Recipient company's name.
address1	String	Recipient address 1.
address2 `OPTIONAL`	String	Recipient address 2.
city	String	Recipient city.
state	String	Recipient state. Use 2 letter state code
zip	String	Recipient zip. Use 5 digit zip codes ONLY
country	String	Recipient country. Use 2 country code
phone	String	Recipient phone number.
from_address	Object	Origin address. This address should be where the package is being shipped from. This location will be used as the first event on our tracking page and in our tracking data we store for this shipment.
name	String	From address name.
address1	String	From address 1.
address2 `OPTIONAL`	String	From address 2.
city	String	From city.
state	String	From state. Use 2 letter state code
zip	String	From zip. Use 5 digit zip codes ONLY

phone	String	From phone number.
return_address `OPTIONAL`	Object	Address you wish to appear on the shipping label. This value is not editable for all partners Maergo utilizes. Some carriers require a specific address that is meaningful to their operations to be present on the label in the 'return address\" place. NOTE: if this object is excluded from the request, we will default to the `from_address` values

address1	String	Return address 1.
address2 `OPTIONAL`	String	Return address 2.
city	String	From city.
state	String	From state. Use 2 letter state code

parcel	Object	Parcel information.
description	String	Description of goods shipped. ex: T-Shirt

weight	String	Parcel weight in ounces. Allowed values: `>= 1.0`

reference	String	Open field, can be used as client desires.This field may be passed onto the label as a reference field. NOTE: Some carriers support this, others do not.
label_format	String	Label format [PDF, ZPL or PNG]. Allowed values: `P4x6` , `Z4x6`, `PNG4x6`.

Field	Type	Description
tracking_number	String	Tracking number specific to Maergo Carrier.
tracking_url	String	URL for tracking webpage. This can be given directly to customers to track their packages. NOTE: The URL returned using 'dev' endpoints don't currently have an SSL setup, so you may experience a security warning when trying to view the page. However, production tracking URLs will function properly.
parcel	Object	Parcel information.
tracking_num	String	Final mile carrier tracking number.
carrier	String	Final mile carrier name.
rate	Object	Information relevant to the cost of the shipment
cost	String	The cost of the shipment given the details sent in the rate request. This sting will not contain the currency type, but assume USD for the time being. NOTE: If there is no rate found for the shipment, a `NULL` value will be returned.
dollar_cost	String	Similar to the above but this will actually provide a currency symbol in addition to the number. NOTE: If there is no rate found for the shipment, a `NULL` value will be returned.
billable_weight	String	Billable weight is the greater value when comparing scale weight to dimensional weight. Scale weight is the total the package and all of its contents should weight. Dimensional weight is (L x W x H) / 166.
zone	String	This is a standardized way of calculating the distance a package must travel from origin to destination.
use_dim_weight	String	If dimensional weight was used in for the shipment (L x W x H / 166) > Scale weight, we will return the value 'TRUE\" in this field.
label_base64	String	Base64 encoded label. The format will be either PDF, ZPL or PNG depending on your original request.
created_time	String	UTC timestamp of shipment creation.

Appending the tracking_number OR tracking_num value to the end of the endpoint will return a successful tracking response.

tracking_number	String	Tracking number used in the request. NOTE: you can input either the final mile carrier tracking number, or the Maergo tracking number.
status	String	Delivery status. This will display the status from the most recent event [see below].
events	Array	Tracking information.
timestamp	String	Timestamp of tracking event.
status	String	Delivery status. Possible Values Label created - Package not yet in-transit. In-Transit - Package is enroute to final destination. Out for Delivery - Package is on a truck and a delivery attempt will be made. Delivery attempted - Driver has attempted to deliver the package and was unsuccessful. Delivered - Package was successfully delivered. Hold for Pickup - Package has been held at a facility for customer pickup. Delayed - Package has been delayed and will most likely miss the original expected delivery date. Undeliverable - Package is not deliverable in its current state (missing address information, damaged shipments, etc). Exception - An unexpected tracking event has occurred. Return to Sender - Package is en-route back to the shipper.

signatureUrl	String	For shipments requiring the POD confirmation, an URL to download a .png image of the signature will be in this field. This link will have an expiring token in the URL, so please download the image if you wish to save it. The URL will expire so there is no point in saving the URL for an extended period of time. *If there is not value, a `NULL` value will be returned.
destination	Array	To address of the package.
city	String	Destination city of the package.
state	String	Destination state of the package. 2 letter state code

NOTE: Production URLs are used for all webhook related demos. Our staging environment purges shipments data daily, so it is best to test webhook configuration on our production endpoints.

Setting up webhooks provides a way to receive shipment events in real-time.

Currently, Maergo will notify the configured URL of shipment events only. In the future we may also provide billing data via webhook events.

NOTE: You CAN setup more than one URL to receive shipment status events.

status	string	High level shipment status.

state	string	State of the event. This will be the 2 letter abbreviation.

expectedDeliveryDate	string	Some shipments will receive a date for which Maergo or the carrier anticipate the order to be delivered.
signature	string	For \"signature required\" shipments, this field will contain the name of the signer.

This link will expire after a set amount of time so we strongly recommend downloading the image immediately if you need to keep a copy for your records. Insert new URL in the url field to update the value

NOTE: after the update, the webhook.id will remain unchanged.

Append the webhook.id to the end of the endpoint to DELETE the webhook.

This endpoint is to be used when a label has been created but will not be used. When an order has been cancelled, it will be excluded from invoicing (unless we see future tracking events tied to the tracking number).

You can use both the tracking_number or the tracking_num values to cancel an order.

The return rates endpoint is used to get the shipping fee for a particular shipment. Performing this API call will NOT purchase the shipment. This is often useful when comparing multiple shipping services to one another so you can select the cheapest rate.

The expected inputs for this request are the same as the POST Create Shipment call. Since no label is purchased, you will not see tracking, label or created_at related fields in the response. Instead you will see the following object at the bottom of the response:

Field	Type	Description
rate	Array	Information relevant to the cost of the shipment.
cost	String	The cost of the shipment given the details sent in the rate request. This sting will not contain the currency type, but assume USD for the time being. NOTE: If there is no rate found for the shipment, a `NULL` value will be returned.
dollar_cost	String	Similar to the above but this will actually provide a currency symbol in addition to the number. NOTE: If there is no rate found for the shipment, a `NULL` value will be returned.
billable_weight	String	Billable weight is the greater value when comparing scale weight to dimensional weight. Scale weight is the total the package and all of its contents should weight. Dimensional weight is (L x W x H) / 166.
zone	String	This is a standardized way of calculating the distance a package must travel from origin to destination.
use_dim_weight	String	If dimensional weight was used in for the shipment (L x W x H / 166) > Scale weight, we will return the value 'TRUE\" in this field.

This endpoint returns the zip codes that are enabled for the account making the API call.

NOTE: there may be other factors/dimensions that would prevent an account from shipping to one of the zip codes returned (ex: a zip code is enabled, but we don't ship packages 50+lbs to that region).
